News Nigerian Army foils bomb attack, kills suspected terrorists in Borno ambush Published on April 3, 2026 By Hadiza Musa Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled an attempted bomb attack and killed suspected terrorists during an ambush operation along a major road in Borno State. The development was disclosed in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst Zagazola Makama. According to the post, the incident happened late on Thursday night at about 11:30 pm along the Maiduguri–Konduga–Kawuri road, a key supply route in the state. “Troops of the 222 Battalion, who were on an ambush operation, reportedly spotted a group of suspected terrorists attempting to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) on the road. “The soldiers quickly moved in and engaged the suspects using heavy firepower, including a rocket-propelled grenade. The explosion that followed neutralised members of the group and disrupted the planned attack,” Makama wrote. Security sources said the suspects were believed to be part of a team assigned to plant explosives along the busy route, which is often used by both civilians and military personnel. During a follow-up search of the area, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles. However, no other significant items were found at the scene. The Maiduguri–Konduga–Kawuri axis remains a critical corridor in the fight against insurgency in the North-East, with troops maintaining strong surveillance to prevent attacks. Sources added that the morale of the troops remains high, while monitoring and clearance operations in the area are ongoing.
