Nigerian Army names GOCs for four new divisions in expansion to 12

What happened? On July 29, 2026, the Nigerian Army announced the appointment of new General Officers Commanding for four newly created divisions - 5 Division (Makurdi), 9 Division (Ilorin), 10 Division (Jalingo) and 83 Division (Benin City) - as part of the force expansion from eight to twelve divisions approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 23.
