Nigerian governors accused of misusing security votes on frivolities
Primate Elijah Ayodele has accused Nigerian governors of exacerbating insecurity by misusing security votes allocated to them. The INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church leader claims governors spend the funds on "parties and young girls" rather than securing citizens, despite President Bola Tinubu increasing monthly allocations to state executives. Ayodele challenged governors to explain their spending priorities, noting that purchasing police vehicles and equipment wouldn't be prohibitively expensive. He specifically questioned how governors can claim they lack power over security while receiving substantial funding. The prophet called for scrutiny of security vote expenditures, asking how many police stations governors have built with these funds. Ayodele also insisted that governors bear significant responsibility for insecurity in their states, urging citizens to hold them accountable rather than blaming only the federal government. With Nigeria facing persistent security challenges, the effectiveness of security vote distribution and utilization remains a critical question for governance and public safety.
