Ubokobong Amanan has launched Nigeria's first commercially mass-produced wearable medical robot – a robotic rehabilitation glove designed to help stroke survivors and people with hand disabilities. Announced via a Facebook post on Friday, June 19 2026, the glove is lightweight, rechargeable, and offers guided hand movement, adjustable intensity, targeted finger training, digital cycle counting and a mirror-synchronisation sensor that stimulates neuroplasticity. Ubokobong Robotics says the device was developed over several years with physiotherapists and underwent an 18-month clinical evaluation. Priced between N270,000 and N350,000 per unit, the company says affordability was a core goal and is seeking partnerships with NGOs, foundations, healthcare organisations and government agencies to bring the glove to rural and underserved communities across Nigeria and Africa. The inventor also highlighted his earlier Ubokobong Bionic Arm – Africa's first hyper-realistic bionic arm – which is already in use in 13 African countries.

Why does this matter? Stroke affects millions globally each year, and Africa faces a growing burden with limited access to rehabilitation equipment. A locally produced, affordable glove could reduce reliance on costly imports, speed up recovery for patients, and create jobs in Nigeria's emerging med-tech sector. For patients, clinicians or investors, the launch signals a tangible step toward closing Africa's rehabilitation gap.

What should you know or do? If you or someone you know needs hand rehab, consider whether this locally made glove fits your budget and needs, or explore partnership opportunities with Ubokobong Robotics to expand access in your community.
