Nigerian military denies viral video alleging troop allowance issues
Nigerian military dismissed as "false and misleading" a viral video claiming non-payment of allowances to troops and victimization of a soldier. Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba clarified that all legitimate allowances under Operation HADIN KAI have been paid up to date (May 2026), including Ration Cash Allowance, Operational Allowance, and Habit Allowance.
The military addressed a specific additional incentive allowance for troops at Tuba, noting that when NNPC ceased exploration, payments stopped. Borno State Government has since taken over responsibility and is working to incorporate this into their existing payment plan for police and volunteer forces. At the time the concern was raised, funds for this additional allowance were still pending, though Brigadier General Solomon Diwa assured troops payment would be made once funds were released.
The military denies allegations that the soldier was intimidated or punished, claiming the video was created by a "mischievous content creator" known for publishing material from disgruntled individuals. They urge media and public not to disseminate unverified information on military operations, stating such actions risk undermining troop morale and national security efforts.
