Nigerian fine art photographer Mavic Chijioke Okeugo opens her solo exhibition 'Where Light Learns Our Faces' at The African Centre in London this Sunday, January 18, 2026. The show begins with an invitation-only private view at 2:00 PM GMT before opening to the general public. Okeugo's meditative body of work explores identity, presence, and the subtle relationship between light and the human face through carefully constructed portraits of Black subjects. The exhibition positions photography as a space for pause and reflection in an accelerated visual culture, with light acting as an active collaborator in revealing emotional nuance and vulnerability. This marks a significant moment in Okeugo's practice, presenting a contemplative collection that invites viewers to approach portraiture as an exchange rooted in presence rather than consumption.
