Nigerian scholar joins China's digital villages seminar in Hangzhou, bringing lessons home for rural tech inclusion
Max Nwabueze Amuchie, a Nigerian scholar-practitioner, attended China's 'Seminar on Digital Villages and Economic Development for Nigeria' in Hangzhou from July 22-early August 2026 after an unexpected May invitation from the Chinese Embassy in Abuja. The program, organized under China's Foreign Aid Cooperation Programme and hosted by Zhejiang Province's Free Trade Development Board, brought together 31 Nigerian delegates—the largest national contingent alongside participants from South Africa and Solomon Islands.
The seminar examined China's transition from poverty alleviation to common prosperity, featuring lectures by Zhejiang University professors on Xi Jinping Thought, digital economy development, and field visits to West Lake and Yiwu Industrial & Commercial College. Amuchie received a copy of Xi Jinping's 'Governance of China' as part of the program materials.
