Nigerian international midfielder Christantus Uche has undergone successful surgery after suffering a serious knee injury during Getafe’s pre‑season friendly against Monaco on 6 August. The procedure addressed multiple ligament and meniscus tears in his right knee, and Uche confirmed on Wednesday that the operation went as planned, sharing a photo of the start of his rehabilitation.

The injury ends Uche’s 2026/27 campaign before it could begin, dashing hopes of a strong return following a frustrating loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, where he made only 22 appearances and played just 477 minutes. Getafe will be without one of their midfield options for the remainder of the season as Uche focuses on a lengthy recovery process.

For Nigerian fans, this means a potential gap in the Super Eagles midfield ahead of upcoming internationals, as Uche’s availability for national team duty is now uncertain. His absence adds pressure on other midfielders to step up ahead of qualifiers and friendlies.

Uche thanked his medical team, agent, Getafe staff, teammates, and supporters, expressing faith in God and determination to work hard through recovery. Will you adjust your expectations for the Super Eagles midfield, or look to other emerging talents to fill the void left by Uche’s injury?
