Nigerian artists earned approximately ₦1.98 per stream on Spotify in 2025, generating ₦60 billion ($43.92 million) from 30.3 billion streams. This contrasts sharply with Sweden, where one million streams yield up to $10,000. The disparity stems from Spotify's territorial payout model, which adjusts earnings based on regional subscription fees and economic conditions. In Nigeria, Spotify's premium plan costs ₦1,600 ($1.17) monthly, compared to $13.78 in Sweden. While this model keeps streaming affordable, it reduces per-stream revenue for artists in lower-income regions. Spotify pays 2/3 of its music revenue to rights holders, who then distribute to artists. Nigerian artists saw 140% revenue growth over two years, with 1.3 billion new listeners globally and 80% of tracks on Spotify Nigeria's Top 50. Independent artists received 58% of royalties, indicating a shift away from traditional labels.
