Nigeria's August oil output rises 0.4%, hits OPEC quota for fourth consecutive month
Nigeria's crude oil production increased 0.4% in August to 1,677,777 barrels per day (including condensates), marking the fourth straight month of meeting OPEC quota. Excluding condensates, output was exactly on quota at 1,500,190 barrels/day. The NUPRC credits this gain to resolving operational issues at the Erha field's Single Buoy Mooring system, which had suppressed July's output.
Despite this progress, Nigeria's August production (1.678 million barrels/day with condensates) remains below the 1.84 million barrels/day assumed in the 2026 federal budget. This gap risks lower government oil revenues unless output accelerates. Bonny and Forcados terminals each delivered over 317,000 barrels daily, leading national output.
The regulator links sustained growth to improving asset reliability, operational resilience, and timely industry interventions. Analysts stress that closing the budget gap requires decisive action on crude oil theft and faster upstream investment.
