Nigeria's crude oil output stays above 1.5M bpd for third month despite June dip, OPEC data shows
Nigeria's crude oil production averaged 1.505 million barrels per day in July 2026, down from 1.555 million bpd in June but marking the third consecutive month above the 1.5 million bpd threshold, according to OPEC's Monthly Oil Market Report. This sustained output keeps Nigeria ahead of African peers Libya (1.391 million bpd) and Algeria (995,000 bpd) in July production rankings.
The July figure contributes to a stronger Q2 2026 average of 1.525 million bpd—up significantly from Q1's 1.388 million bpd and building on steady growth since May 2026. Nigeria's total petroleum reserves stand at 37.01 billion barrels of crude oil and condensate alongside 215.19 trillion cubic feet of natural gas as of January 2026. Domestic crude supply to local refineries reached 97.4% in Q2 2026 (53.7 million barrels supplied April-June), supporting energy security efforts.
