At the national launch of the Digital Switch-Over (DSO) Free TV Project yesterday, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced the National Assembly's commitment to advancing data protection and cybersecurity reforms, while officials highlighted the DSO's potential to unlock Nigeria's N605.2 billion advertising market and support the digital economy.

The initiative goes beyond TV broadcasting - Ministers Idris and Tijani emphasized it's about expanding access through hybrid models combining terrestrial, satellite and digital platforms, with plans for 90,000 km of fibre-optic infrastructure and two additional satellites to boost nationwide connectivity. NIGCOMSAT's CEO called it a nation-building initiative that will deliver broadcast services to 40 million homes while creating jobs in advertising and wider economy.

For Nigerians, this means improved local content, more broadcasting options, and potential opportunities in media, tech and advertising sectors. The DSO aims to curb content monopolies and enhance on-demand television services for millions of households. With the President Tinubu administration prioritizing the digital economy for national transformation, consider how this infrastructure push could affect your access to information, business opportunities, or career path in Nigeria's evolving digital landscape.
