Nigeria's ECOWAS capital inflows remain negligible despite regional bloc
Nigeria attracted $16.78 billion in capital importation in first nine months of 2025, but ECOWAS countries contributed only $2.16 million (0.01%). This represents a 36.2% decline from 2024 and shows minimal regional investment despite Nigeria's economic dominance. Ghanaian investors alone provided $1.50 million (69.4% of regional inflows), while other ECOWAS nations contributed $0.26 million or less. Nigerian-based investors brought $14.77 million, seven times more than all ECOWAS combined. Quarterly data reveals extreme volatility with 98% of regional inflows concentrated in Q3 2025. The data highlights weak financial integration within West Africa despite trade agreements.
