Energy expert Nick Agule has criticised Nigeria's electricity pricing regime as punitive, noting consumers pay more for unreliable power compared to the UK. Agule, speaking on ARISE TV, highlighted that Nigerians pay significantly higher tariffs than UK consumers despite receiving inferior service. He stated: 'I pay for electricity in Abuja more than I pay in London, yet I get 24/7 power in the UK.' Agule also revealed that Nigeria's minimum wage only buys 350 units of electricity on Band A, while the same wage in the UK secures 7,500 units. He warned that state governments lack capacity to absorb rising power costs, citing 20 states' inability to settle electricity bills in 2024. 'The states won't have the capacity to pay,' he concluded, amid growing public concern over tariff hikes without service improvements.
