Nigeria's Flamingos have reached the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, joining Brazil, Japan, and defending champions DPR Korea in a historic final four. For the first time in tournament history, no European nation features in the semi-finals — the last four consists entirely of teams from Africa, Asia, and South America.

The Flamingos' 3-1 group-stage victory over DPR Korea ended the Asian side's eight-year unbeaten run at the finals and announced Nigeria as genuine contenders. DPR Korea remain the tournament's most prolific scorers with 43 goals across the 2025 and 2026 editions, led by all-time leading scorer Yu Jong-hyang (15 goals across both tournaments). Brazil's attack runs through Greise Kelly, who has contributed eight direct goals (three goals, five assists) — 47% of Brazil's total.

Brazil goalkeeper Nathy and defender Isa Rech have played all 519 available minutes, while Japan boast the tournament's stingiest defence, conceding just once en route to the semis. Nigeria's Ayomide Rotimi and DPR Korea's Ryu Mi-hong are the only players appearing in their third consecutive U-17 World Cup.

With semi-finals approaching, Nigeria faces the opportunity to reach a first-ever final and add another landmark to African women's youth football. The Flamingos' core has played 514 minutes each, reflecting coach Bankole Olowookere's trust in a consistent lineup.

Will Nigeria's historic run continue against familiar powerhouses, or will experience prevail in Morocco's decisive matches?
