Nigeria's maternal health interventions are yielding measurable results, with 15.3% increase in antenatal care attendance and 31% rise in deliveries by skilled health workers in targeted areas. NPHCDA Executive Director Muyi Aina announced these gains Tuesday in Abuja, citing the Maternal and Newborn Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMI) which tracks 223,784 pregnant women across 33 states.

Despite progress, Nigeria maintains one of the world's highest maternal mortality rates at 1,047 deaths per 100,000 live births, accounting for 28.3% of global maternal deaths. Most deaths result from preventable causes like postpartum hemorrhage, hypertension, and infections, with delays in care access being a major factor.

The government is expanding interventions through 111,000+ 'Mama Kits' for safer deliveries, free emergency maternal services including caesarean sections, and large-scale measles-rubella campaigns reaching 102 million children. However, challenges persist with limited nationwide coverage and the need for follow-up vaccination doses.

What specific maternal health services are available in your state, and how might you help ensure pregnant women in your community access these life-saving interventions?
