Nigeria’s average daily natural gas output rose to 7.93 billion standard cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in May 2026, a 0.63% increase from 7.88 bcf/d in May 2025, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Non‑Associated Gas contributed 3.98 bcf/d, slightly edging out Associated Gas at 3.96 bcf/d. Production eased 0.12% from April’s 7.94 bcf/d, with a year‑to‑date average of 7.87 bcf/d, up from 7.82 bcf/d in Q1.

Of the May output, 3.07 bcf/d (40%) was exported, 2.18 bcf/d (26.6%) went to domestic sales, and 2.11 bcf/d (26.5%) was used for field operations. Gas flaring accounted for 0.57 bcf/d (6.9%). Between January and April 2026, Nigeria utilized about 92% of its gas, with flaring between 6‑7% of output. The NUPRC cited the growth of dedicated gas projects and noted the country’s Gas Development Roadmap from October 2025 aims to unlock over 55 tcf of uncommitted reserves and attract new investment. Nigeria holds more than 200 tcf of proven gas reserves and has pledged to end routine flaring by 2030 while boosting domestic gas for power and industry.

With gas utilization already high and flaring still near 7%, will you back policies that fast‑track domestic gas use for electricity and manufacturing, or push for quicker elimination of routine flaring to meet the 2030 target?
