In June 2026, Nigeria’s stock market lost N13.29 trillion in market value as the All-Share Index fell 8.28%, its biggest monthly drop since President Bola Tinubu took office, wiping out much of the year’s gains.

The selloff hit all sectors, wiping out over N11 trillion from trillion-naira companies and cutting year-to-date returns from over 60% to 47.4%; while the market remains up ~15% for Q2, the loss shows how quickly gains can evaporate and affects investors’ portfolios, pension funds, and market confidence.

Analysts point to widespread profit‑taking after the rally, dividend‑related price adjustments, portfolio rebalancing into higher‑yielding fixed income, and liquidity shifts tied to the Dangote Group private placement as key drivers.

Despite the drop, Airtel Africa added N4 trillion, cushioning the blow; investors should watch corporate earnings, liquidity, monetary policy and foreign portfolio inflows in H2 to gauge whether this is a healthy correction or the start of a longer downturn; those with equity exposure may consider reviewing portfolio diversification and checking exposure to large-cap stocks.
