Nigeria's Tax Ombudsman John Nwabueze pledged collaboration with tax and revenue agencies at national and sub-national levels to improve operational efficiency, according to a statement released Thursday. He spoke at the 159th Joint Revenue Board meeting in Lagos, bringing together revenue boards from 36 states, FCTRS, and other tax agencies nationwide.

The Tax Ombudsman serves as an independent, impartial body protecting taxpayer rights and promoting administrative justice. It functions as a bridge between taxpayers and revenue authorities, investigating complaints and facilitating resolution through mediation and conciliation—faster and more cost-effective than litigation, the Ombudsman noted.

For businesses and individuals facing tax disputes, this means faster resolution of grievances without the high cost of litigation. The Tax Ombudsman's focus on trust-based compliance rather than coercion could reshape how Nigerians interact with tax authorities.
