NiMet has issued a flash‑flood warning for southern Nigeria today, June 30 2026, forecasting thunderstorms with light rain in the morning over Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate rainfall across the entire southern region in the afternoon and evening, with a high likelihood of flash flooding in coastal areas especially Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom. In the north, morning thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected over Borno, Adamawa and Taraba, later spreading to Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe and Kebbi. The North Central region will see morning cloudiness with light rain over the FCT, Nasarawa and Benue, then thunderstorms with moderate rain across the region in the afternoon and evening, accompanied by strong winds that may precede the storms. NiMet advises residents to monitor weather updates, avoid driving or walking through floodwaters, steer clear of sheltering under tall trees during thunderstorms due to lightning risk, drive carefully in poor visibility, and for aviation operators to obtain airport‑specific weather reports to ensure safe flights.
