NLO caps playoff signings at five non-league players, effective July 2026

Nationwide League One (NLO) announced that clubs competing in the promotional playoffs may register a maximum of five non‑league players for the post‑season tournament. The directive, contained in a circular signed by Temitayo Egbaieloye, takes effect for the playoff scheduled from Thursday 2nd to Tuesday 7th July 2026. NLO defines a “non‑league player” as any individual not already on an official league roster before the playoff transfer deadline.

The restriction is intended to preserve a fair and competitive environment while safeguarding NLO’s developmental structure. Clubs found fielding unregistered players or failing to register them properly will face immediate disqualification, which could undo months of preparation.

Teams must now finalise their playoff squads by the deadline, ensuring each new addition complies with the five‑player cap. Fans should expect limited turnover in line‑ups, with only up to five fresh faces per side eligible for the playoffs.
