He made the appeal on Monday during a Unity Match of all Health sectors leaders in appreciation of the reforms and welfare packages for health workers in the state. He also commended the health reform initiatives that have brought infrastructural renaissance to the health sector in the state, saying, ‘‘We want to appreciate the governor for revolutionizing the health sector in the state. We have not had it so good. Our doctors, nurses and other health workers are the highest paid in Nigeria. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); “We’ve seen a lot of renovations in health centers across the state, but we want to plead that the ongoing interview for employment of more health workers be hastened. ‘’We want to thank the governor and encourage him to ensure that the process is completed this month, April, so that the new health workers will start work immediately and to reduce the pressure on our members across the state.’’ Speaking, Joe Ideke, Deputy Secretary, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives Akwa ibom State Council commended Governor for the salary increase and asked for recruitment of more health workers especially the nurses. “Nurses are very few, we want more recruitments even though the governor has gone ahead to recruit retired nurses, we want fresh hands in our hospitals.” He said In her remarks, the Secretary Coalition of all Healthcare sector leaders in the state Pharmacist Abasiama Uwatt, explained that health workers were out to appreciate the governor for the reforms and renaissance taking place in the healthcare sector in the state. She said that before there were a lot of challenges of infrastructure, remuneration adding that health sector was not largely prioritized the way it should be but the government of pastor Umo Eno things have changed for the better. The Commissioner of Health, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Ekem John, while receiving the health workers announced a new public health initiative aimed at revitalising medical infrastructure and expanding access to essential services. The initiative he stated includes renovating rural clinics and procuring state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to bridge the healthcare gap in underserved communities.
