NNPC's 2025 training spend jumps 23% as recruitment drive concludes
NNPC Ltd spent N111.04 billion on training and recruitment in 2025, a 22.8% increase from N90.39 billion in 2024, per its Annual Financial Report viewed by Nairametrics. Standalone costs nearly doubled to N56.75 billion (up 91.3% from N29.66 billion). Staff allowances rose sharply to N468.18 billion nationally (23.8% increase), while short-term employee benefits reached N782.76 billion (11.4% up).
This follows NNPC's completion of a major recruitment exercise (July 2024-Feb 2025) that attracted 45,689 applicants for roles in petroleum engineering, geosciences, finance, IT, legal and commercial operations. Concurrently, security expenses fell 52% to N129.12 billion and repairs/maintenance dropped 67% to N55.73 billion, while insurance costs rose 79% to N89.29 billion.
For Nigerians interested in energy sector careers, NNPC's human capital investment suggests continued focus on local talent development despite cost optimization elsewhere. What skills should you prioritize to align with NNPC's current recruitment focus on technical and commercial disciplines?
