Agbo Major-led faction of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) declares INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan as 'the biggest enemy of Nigeria's democracy' during Friday interview on News Central Television. The faction, which originally focused on legislative leadership before party's 2023 presidential candidate Rabi'u Kwankwaso initiated presidential contest, accuses Amupitan of non-compliance with court judgments regarding NNPP's leadership dispute. 'We are a law-abiding political party that has resolved to shift INEC to the court of public opinion,' Major stated, as they had previously called for Amupitan's resignation over the leadership dispute. This represents escalation in ongoing power struggle within NNPP, with the party facing internal leadership challenges as political activities intensify ahead of 2027 elections. As Nigeria's 2027 election cycle begins, how will internal party disputes impact the credibility and competitiveness of opposition parties?
