The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has moved the 2026 Olympic Day celebration from June 27 to July 4, following an emergency meeting of its Sport-for-All Commission on June 6. Chairman Abdul Ibrahim said the shift gives participating states more time to finalise preparations and avoid clashes with other commitments or logistical challenges. He praised NOC President Habu Gumel’s continued support for the annual initiative.

Olympic Day, a global IOC programme, promotes physical activity and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect through non‑competitive sports. At least 18 states have already signalled interest in hosting: Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Jigawa, Gombe, Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Anambra, Zamfara, Imo, Yobe, Kogi, Sokoto, Adamawa and the Federal Capital Territory. More states are expected to join.

The NOC is urging corporate organisations, philanthropists and members of the public to sponsor or donate to ensure a successful event across the participating states. Will your state or organisation contribute to Olympic Day 2026 to help promote national unity and healthy living through sport?
