NPFL has fined Ranchers Bees a total of ₦5 million for multiple rule violations during their Matchday 6 clash against Rivers United. The fines include ₦2 million for failing to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorised persons into restricted areas (Rule B13.52); ₦1 million for players and bench officials intimidating match officials (Rule C1.1); ₦1 million for supporters allegedly attempting to attack officials (Rule C9); and another ₦1 million for failing to prevent match officials from being held hostage after the game. The league also ordered the club to identify the player captured on video assaulting a Rivers United player, with the name to be disclosed by Thursday, October 1, for further disciplinary action.

The sanctions come from the NPFL’s Summary Jurisdiction decision signed on September 29 by Chief Operating Officer Dr Ayo Abdulrahman. Ranchers Bees have 48 hours to either accept the penalties or elect, in writing, to have the case referred to a Disciplinary Panel, and must pay the fines within seven working days after the appeal period ends.

Why does this matter? The financial hit strains the club’s budget, while the unresolved assault case could lead to additional suspensions or fines. It also highlights ongoing security and conduct issues that could affect matchday safety and the league’s reputation.

Will Ranchers Bees accept the sanctions and improve security and player conduct, or will they challenge the decision, potentially prolonging the controversy and affecting their preparations for upcoming fixtures?
