NSC appoints Lekan Fatodu as Nigeria Aquatics Federation President
National Sports Commission has appointed Lekan Fatodu as President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, effective immediately. Mr Fatodu, who currently serves as Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, will oversee swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming development nationwide.
The appointment comes as the sports community pushes for stronger structures, improved athlete pathways, and greater competitiveness in aquatic sports. NSC Director General Bukola Olopade said this aligns with efforts to reposition national sports federations through capable leadership and reforms.
Under his leadership in Lagos, Fatodu spearheaded grassroots participation, talent identification, and infrastructure development. His appointment is expected to bring similar momentum to aquatic sports, which possess enormous untapped potential despite Nigeria's water resources and population.
Fatodu emphasized building sustainable talent development: 'Our objective must be to create a development model where every talented young Nigerian, regardless of location, has opportunities to discover, develop, and maximize sporting potential.' This appointment is part of NSC's broader efforts to strengthen sports federations capable of delivering measurable outcomes.
