NSC inspects Lagos facilities for maiden National Intermediate Games set for Oct 1-15
The National Sports Commission, alongside Main and Local Organising Committees, inspected Lagos sports facilities including Teslim Balogun Stadium, National Stadium complex, NIS Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos sports facilities and hostels, Elegbata Sports Centre, Cricket Oval at Tafawa Balewa Square and Mobolaji Johnson Arena. This preparation is for the maiden National Intermediate Games scheduled for October 1-15, 2026, with athletes arriving October 1 and opening ceremony set for October 5.
The games will feature 28 sports for Under-19 athletes (born January 1, 2008 to September 30) from all 36 states, Federal Capital Territory and diaspora competing as one contingent in Lagos. Director of Information Kehinde Ajayi stated the inspection assessed facility readiness and suitability, ensuring technical arrangements and operational structures are in place for a safe, competitive and successful maiden edition aimed at developing and identifying young sporting talents nationwide.
With facilities across Lagos being verified for compliance, young athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts should note the October 1-15 timeframe for this national multi-sport event. The inspection confirms organizers are evaluating key infrastructure including stadium turfs, indoor halls and sporting facilities to guarantee proper conditions for the expected thousands of participating athletes from across Nigeria and abroad.
