NZ moves graduate work visa applications online from Nov 16, 2026
Immigration New Zealand will move all applications for the Post-Study Work Visa and the new Short-Term Graduate Work Visa fully online starting November 16, 2026, using its upgraded Immigration Online platform. From that date, paper applications for the Post-Study Work Visa will no longer be accepted, though applications submitted on or before November 15 will continue to be processed.
For Nigerians considering work in New Zealand after study, the change does not alter eligibility windows. Applicants for the Short-Term Graduate Work Visa must apply within three months of their student visa expiry; thus, those whose student visas expired before August 16, 2026 will generally fall outside the three-month window by the time the online system launches on November 16. The Post-Study Work Visa allows up to three months, six months, or up to twelve months depending on the course of study and previous visa held. Applicants must determine which deadline applies to their individual case rather than relying solely on the November 16 launch date.
