Odumodublvck asks Tinubu for govt grant, sparks debate on artist support
Odumodublvck publicly asked President Bola Tinubu for financial assistance from government funds for himself and fellow artists, reacting to Tinubu’s Friday post on X about his meeting with entertainment executive Vincent Bolloré in Paris. He urged Tinubu to treat artists like a label boss and provide advances so they wouldn’t have to fight labels or remain underground.
Critics accused him of ignoring Nigeria’s terrorism and hardship while seeking personal gain, especially since he previously turned down a large sum to perform at a Tinubu campaign event. Odumodublvck replied that artists rarely receive government backing unlike civil servants or business owners, and that despite making Nigeria proud globally, he has yet to see an artiste funded by the state to produce an album.
His request, made months before the 2027 presidential election, has sparked debate over his integrity and whether direct government grants are the right way to support the creative industry.
Do you think government should fund artists directly, or are there better ways to strengthen Nigeria’s entertainment sector?
