Ogun-Lagos Police Launch 'Kosaye' Operation, Arrest 88 Suspects, Rescue 5 Kidnapped Victims
Operation Kosaye, a joint bush-clearing exercise by the Ogun and Lagos Police Commands, began earlier today across Lagos, Ogun and up to the Oyo state boundary. Authorities said they arrested 88 suspects (reports vary between 84 and 88, with 75 male and 9 female), rescued five kidnapping victims taken from the Ore-Ogbere road on Thursday, killed four kidnappers and arrested four others. Recovered items include AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, English and locally-made pistols, battle axes, cutlasses and mobile phones.
The operation aims to dispel rumors of banditry in Lagos and Ogun by clearing bushes and criminal hideouts from Ikeja to Kara bridge, Redeem camp, Iseri corridor, Owode Egba axis through Ogere, Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu Ode, the J4 fringe of Ondo state, and areas such as Epe, Ikorodu and Ogijo. Police Commissioners Bode Ojajuni (Ogun) and Tijani Fatai (Lagos) said the exercise is IGP Olatunji Disu's initiative, backed by the governors of both states, and will continue as long as needed. They urged residents to stay calm and report anyone with gunshot wounds to police immediately.
Residents should treat this as a sign of heightened security patrols in previously unsafe bush corridors. While no specific curfew or movement restrictions were announced, staying alert and cooperating with police—such as reporting suspicious activity or gunshot wounds—helps sustain the gains. Keep an eye on official police channels for updates on the ongoing Kosaye sweep.
