Ogunsakin secures US Open Junior win over Chen
Seventeen-year-old Nigerian tennis player Oluwaseun Ogunsakin from Aurum Tennis Academy won his first Grand Slam main-draw match at the US Open Junior Championships, defeating 15th seed Kuan-Shou Chen of Chinese Taipei in three sets: 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. The victory came after a strong qualifying campaign where he beat Poland’s Tymon Litwic 6-3, 6-0 and caused an upset over top seed Felix Roussel of Canada, 6-3, 6-4 to earn a place in the 64-player main draw.
Ogunsakin’s breakthrough continues his rapid rise on the international junior circuit. Earlier in 2026 he reached the second round of qualifying at Roland Garros, made the main draw at Wimbledon, and even reached the semi-finals in boys’ doubles there. His US Open win means he now has main-draw appearances at both Wimbledon and the US Open, while also advancing through qualifying at the French Open.
In the second round, Ogunsakin will face South Africa’s Connor Doig. He is also set to compete in the doubles event, partnering Botswana’s history-making teenage tennis sensation Ntungamili Raguin. This marks a significant milestone for Nigerian tennis on the global junior stage.
