Oil prices dip, Asian stocks rise ahead of Nvidia earnings and US inflation

Oil prices fell Wednesday, with Brent crude down 1.9% to $86.90 a barrel and WTI down 2.0% to $80.74, as tensions between the US and Iran eased and Oman-mediated talks hinted at a partial reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Asian stock markets mostly rose, led by gains in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Mumbai, Bangkok and Jakarta, while Sydney, Singapore and Manila slipped.

Nigeria relies on oil exports for a major share of government revenue and foreign exchange; lower crude prices can reduce dollar inflows, pressure the naira and affect fuel pricing and budget allocations. At the same time, rising global equity markets may signal improved investor risk appetite, which could influence foreign portfolio inflows into Nigerian stocks and bonds.

Traders and policymakers should watch the upcoming US personal consumption expenditure (PCE) inflation data and Nvidia's second-quarter earnings, as both could sway global risk sentiment and oil prices. For households and businesses, monitor local fuel prices and forex rates, as any sustained drop in oil revenue may lead to adjustments in fuel subsidies or exchange rate policy.
