News One killed as troops repel bandits’ attack in Benue villages Published on February 23, 2026 By Winner James At least one person lost their life when herdsmen bandits attacked Olojo, Ojantelle, and Edikwu Icho villages in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State on February 22. According to security sources, the bandits struck around 1:45 p.m., opening fire sporadically and sending residents into panic. Troops and tactical units quickly confronted the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes. During the raid, Ngbede Okpe Agabaidu, a resident of Edikwu Icho, was shot dead. His body was subsequently taken to the local mortuary. Military authorities have deployed aerial surveillance and are combing the surrounding areas in a bid to locate and apprehend the fleeing assailants.
