Opposition parties aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027 may announce a unified presidential candidate just days or weeks before the election, according to G-100 Coalition convener Salihu Lukman. Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman, stated on Channels Television's Hard Copy that parties are committed to consensus-building and working through necessary steps.

The timeline remains fluid—Lukman suggested it could be two months, weeks, or mere days before voting when the alliance reveals its candidate. This follows the G-100's formation after an all-opposition Ibadan summit in April, where parties agreed to pursue unity. Notably, the six founding parties have since expanded the effort, with presidential candidates and party leaders now leading direct negotiations after taking the process from the G-100.

Lukman identified trust deficits as the core obstacle, recalling how an August 31 summit established five working groups to manage alliance components including candidate selection. Each party nominates representatives via their presidential candidate or leadership to these groups, which operate under agreed terms. Despite progress, convincing politicians to subordinate personal ambitions for a collective front remains the critical hurdle for Nigerians seeking a credible alternative to the APC in 2027. Will this trust-building effort yield a united opposition capable of challenging Tinubu, or will fragmentation hand him another term?
