PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed warned that opposition parties cannot afford complacency as the 2027 general elections near, accusing the ruling APC of playing dirty politics. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, he said about five of the eight opposition parties are currently dealing with court cases, and many have split into factions, leaving uncertainty over which candidates will appear on the ballot.

He noted that the opposition has learned to field only candidates who can survive legal hurdles, suggesting that internal party disputes and litigation are weakening their ability to present a united front. This fragmentation could affect voter choices and potentially advantage the APC in next year’s polls.

The situation highlights the importance of monitoring party primaries, court rulings, and factional alignments as the election cycle progresses. Voters may need to decide whether to back a particular opposition faction, consider alternative parties, or assess whether the opposition can overcome its internal challenges to offer a credible challenge to the APC.

Will a divided opposition allow the APC to consolidate power, or can the parties resolve their legal and factional issues to present a united alternative?
