Osimhen scores 9th goal as Galatasaray crush Konyaspor 4-0 to extend league lead
Victor Osimhen netted his ninth league goal in eight appearances as Galatasaray thrashed Konyaspor 4-0 this Friday, extending their lead atop the Turkish Süper Lig to 22 points after 10 matches. The Super Eagles striker opened scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful header from Gabriel Sara's free kick before being subbed off in the 61st minute after five shots, three on target.
Yunus Akgün made it 2-0 in the 28th minute, Aleksey Batrakov scored his first league goal for the club in the 49th, and Rafael Leão converted a VAR-awarded penalty in the 55th for his Galatasaray debut goal. The win snapped a poor run for the Istanbul side, who had lost four of their last six visits to Konyaspor.
Fellow Nigerian Chidozie Awaziem played the full 90 minutes for Konyaspor, recording solid defensive stats (two interceptions, three clearances, 97% pass completion) but couldn't prevent the heavy defeat. He's now logged 607 minutes across eight league appearances this season.
Galatasaray now pivot to Champions League action, hosting VfB Stuttgart at home on Tuesday, November 3. With Osimhen in red-hot form and the defense clicking, can the Turkish champions translate domestic dominance to Europe's biggest stage?
