The downpour, DAILY POST had earlier reported, left widespread destruction across several communities and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira. Residents revealed that it began around 8p.m. with strong winds tearing through neighbourhoods and damaging homes in areas such as Ogo-Oluwa, Aregbe, Sabo, Testing Ground, Oke-Oniti, Awosuru, Oke Baale, Oke Fia and others. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); Eyewitnesses in the Sabo area recounted how a large tree was uprooted by the wind and crashed onto a roadside structure where traders and passersby had gathered to shelter from the rain. “The wind was very strong, and before anyone could react, the tree fell directly on the container. People were shouting and trying to escape, but it happened suddenly,” a resident said. Fausat Ganiyu, who was among those sheltering at the location, was killed instantly when the tree struck the structure, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Emergency responders and bystanders reportedly rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention shortly after the incident. Family members of the deceased disclosed that she had been on her way home from her shop behind Hamadiyya Mosque when the rain started, prompting her to seek temporary shelter at the spot where the tragedy occurred. “She only stopped there to avoid the rain. We never imagined that would be her last moment,” a relative said. Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed sympathy with affected residents. According to a statement made available by his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke stated that the incident was deeply saddening and unfortunate. He also extended condolences to the bereaved family.
