Over 10 Nigerian footballers identified for overseas trials after Lagos scouting event
More than 10 young footballers have been identified for possible opportunities with clubs abroad following the inaugural Dominion Peace Cup scouting programme in Lagos, organiser Dominion Excellent Football Academy said. The three-day event brought together players from across Nigeria for open scouting monitored by football scouts from Turkey, the Netherlands and Germany. Academy founder Ogechi Agana stated scouts had already earmarked over 10 talents, with plans to continue developing them for international opportunities. She noted the academy would monitor players even after they secure overseas clubs, including visits to Europe for follow-up. International scout Benjamin James reported selecting about 21 players for further assessment, highlighting raw ability but stressing that basic skills and grace are needed for European success. Turkish scout Oguzhan Turk echoed optimism about Nigeria's potential while noting selected players would need improvement and commitment. Agana confirmed the Peace Cup will become a regular event, with another edition scheduled for November, open to all players including those not selected this time. The academy also plans to expand into basketball, swimming and tennis while maintaining its faith-based youth development approach.
