Master’s Place International Church pastor Korede Komaiya has responded to criticism over his controversial sermon, 'I will never follow a poor pastor,' calling the backlash a misunderstanding and misquotation. In a recent video broadcast, Komaiya emphasised 'kingdom wealth' and benevolence, stating that 'nothing attracts people like loving them.'

Komaiya detailed extensive welfare support for his church staff and their families, describing a system where ministry employees receive full scholarships for their children's education and 100% health coverage. 'The concept of employer, employee does not apply in our ministry,' he stated, adding that all staff are on church scholarship.

The cleric urged the public, especially Christians, to verify news about pastors to avoid 'antics of mischief makers targeting churches.' His response follows public criticism over the original sermon which many interpreted as prioritising material wealth over spiritual leadership.

This situation highlights the ongoing tension between prosperity gospel messaging and traditional Christian values of humility and contentment. Should religious leaders publicly address congregational wealth and pastor compensation, or is this a private matter?
