PDP Aspirants Face Legal Risks Over Form Purchase Amid Leadership Crisis
Senior lawyer Magaji Mato warns PDP aspirants against buying nomination forms from party factions, stating they face significant legal challenges following the Supreme Court's judgment that doesn't recognize any specific leadership within the party. The SAN explained that any faction selling forms without further judicial backing risks having their candidates' legitimacy contested in court by rival factions or other political parties. While the ideal scenario would have been for the PDP Board of Trustees to convene all factions for reconciliation before proceeding with activities, Mato doubts this can happen before INEC's candidate submission deadline. He emphasized that without additional court rulings validating any faction's authority, candidates may end up litigating their eligibility rather than campaigning for elections. Aspiring candidates should carefully consider these legal uncertainties before investing in nomination forms.
