PDP Debunks Reports of ₦10,000 Mandatory Contribution Levy on Members

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports claiming it asked members to contribute ₦10,000 each to fund the party. In a statement on Sunday, PDP spokesperson Ini Ememobong said his comments were misrepresented. He clarified that the ₦10,000 reference was purely illustrative, meant to show the collective strength of voluntary support—not a directive or levy. Ememobong explained the party's funding strategy is a return to voluntary contributions from the people, citing the 1998 model where small donations gave members a voice. He mentioned states like Plateau and Akwa Ibom are already showing mass voluntary support. The PDP spokesperson urged members and the public to disregard the misleading report from The Observer Times and support the party voluntarily in ways they deem appropriate, emphasizing there is no fixed amount, compulsory payment, or obligation imposed on any member.
