PDP senator dumps party, joins APC
Add us on Google The senator representing Niger South Senatorial District, Peter Jiya, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Mr Jiya’s letter of defection at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday. Senator representing Niger South Senatorial District, Peter Jiya. The letter read: “I was formerly a member of the PDP, which was my sponsoring party. “However, today, I have resigned my membership of the PDP. This decision is due to the ongoing quarrels and significant divisions within the party. “Furthermore, kindly take notice that effective today, I have decided to join and associate with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to continue my political career.” READ ALSO: ‘Redemption is here’: Dino Melaye explains how ADC will defeat Tinubu in 2027 The senator expressed his profound gratitude to his former party, the PDP, for the opportunity to serve the nation and humanity. “I remain grateful and wish the party well in the future, especially if it is able to resolve its internal challenges,” he said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that with Mr Jiya’s defection, the latest configuration of senators in the Senate across party lines is: APC, 90; ADC, nine; PDP, four; APGA, one, and NDC, one. The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has one senator and Accord has one, while SDP and Labour Party have none, with three seats vacant due to the demise of their former occupants.
