Nigeria Democratic Congress closed its 2027 presidential ticket forms Monday with indications only Peter Obi bought them, potentially setting up his third consecutive presidential run. The party extended nomination deadlines for other elective positions by one week. Meanwhile, the Naira depreciated to ₦1,395 per dollar in the parallel market (from ₦1,390 last Friday) and ₦1,373.5 in the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market. This follows Federal High Court setting May 26 judgment on Goodluck Jonathan's eligibility to contest 2027 presidency. Justice Peter Lifu confirmed the date after hearing arguments in a suit filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi. Police Monday rescued 30 foreign nationals and arrested 13 suspects after dismantling a human trafficking syndicate operating in FCT and neighboring areas. Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State also responded to frequent attacks from Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, saying his silence shouldn't be misinterpreted as fear and he would soon start 'talking' if pushed further.
