Peter Obi named only presidential candidate to publish campaign accounts, Obidient Movement says
Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, said Peter Obi was the only 2023 presidential candidate who publicly accounted for campaign spending. Speaking on Arise Television’s Day Break on Tuesday, Tanko stated he was present when Obi and activist Aisha Yesufu hired an independent auditor to review their campaign finances. The auditor’s report detailed every amount spent and was made public, he added.
Tanko called on the APC and PDP to match Obi’s transparency, arguing that such accountability builds voter trust and sets a standard for future elections. He noted the audit report remains accessible to the public as a document.
The statement highlights ongoing concerns about campaign finance opacity in Nigeria, where major parties rarely disclose detailed spending. Obi’s approach, Tanko said, reflects the transparency he advocated throughout his campaign and offers a benchmark for assessing candidates’ commitment to good governance.
Will you demand similar financial disclosures from other parties, or consider transparency a key factor when choosing candidates in upcoming elections?
