In a press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson on Wednesday in Jalingo, ASP Victor Mshelizah, authorities explained that the matter stems from multiple petitions and complaints submitted by concerned individuals, which necessitated Imam’s input to aid investigations. According to the statement, the police had earlier invited Imam for questioning in line with the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigeria Police Force. However, he reportedly did not respond to those invitations. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); The Command stated that officers subsequently approached him to ensure his cooperation with investigators, emphasising that the action was strictly within the bounds of the law and part of standard investigative procedures. Police authorities rejected claims that Imam was harassed, assaulted, or forcibly detained. They insisted that at no point was he subjected to inhumane treatment or taken against his will, as suggested in some online reports. “The purpose of the invitation remains to allow him provide his account regarding the matters contained in the petitions,” the statement noted. Emphasising that Imam would be released if found not culpable after due process, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights. The Command also urged the public and media organisations to verify information before sharing reports that could mislead the public.
