Police Launch Manhunt As Armed Men Abduct Woman In Oyo

(Photo by Kola Sulaimon / AFP)   The Oyo State Police Command on Friday said that concerted efforts were on to ensure the safe return of a woman who was abducted in front of her house around the Bolumole area of Challenge in Ibadan. Advertisement googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display("div-gpt-ad-1672569656851-0"); }); READ ALSO: Police Arrest Two Over Killing Of Motorcycle Rider In Oyo In a statement signed by its spokesman, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening when armed masked men accosted the woman, identified as one Mrs. Adetutu Aderibigbe, at the entrance of her house and whisked her away to an unknown destination. “The command is aware of a report currently circulating in the media regarding the alleged kidnapping of one Mrs. Adetutu Aderibigbe. Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident occurred on 8th April 2026 at about 1800hrs at Bolumole Area, off Ring Road, Ibadan,” Ayanlade said. He explained that, contrary to reports suggesting that the victim was kidnapped on the road and that her vehicle windscreen was smashed, findings indicated that the assailants had trailed the victim to her residence. The PPRO added that a family member who was present at the scene was left unharmed. “Following a report made at the station shortly after the incident, the police promptly swung into action. The incident was immediately reported to the control room and escalated to relevant tactical units. Detectives were swiftly deployed to the scene for on-the-spot assessment,” he disclosed. The police stated that the scene of crime had since been forensically swept, and critical evidence recovered was currently aiding ongoing investigation. It assured the public that all necessary resources had been deployed to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. While assuring residents that all is being done to save the woman and reunite her with her family, the Command urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could assist in the investigation.
