Metro Police rescue victim in gun battle with kidnappers Published on April 17, 2026 By Jim Ochetenwu Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Adamawa State have rescued a kidnapped man following an operation involving police operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force. “The raid took place at Luru Mountain, straddling Girei and Song local government areas,” the command said in a statement, adding, “On sighting the advancing team, the kidnappers opened fire, triggering a fierce gun duel.” In the statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, the command added that security operatives overpowered the suspects, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot injuries. According to the police, the victim, 42-year-old Jao Maiwule from Mitim Village in Shelleng Local Government Area, was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family. The command said the State Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, has ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police Command to intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
