Police smash Kano tricycle theft syndicate

Add us on Google The police have arrested members of a three-man tricycle theft syndicate and recovered eight tricycles they stole in Kano State. The police spokesperson in the state, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the development began when officers attached to the Kwakwachi Police Division, on 26 March, while on surveillance patrol along Airport Road Kano intercepted one Abubakar Sidi, of Kunkumi village, Kaduna State, in a tricycle with Reg. NSR 85 WD, Karota No. KMC 1084. Mr Kiyawa said the suspect was arrested following his failures to provide a satisfactory account of the tricycle, and transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on the directives of the Commissioner of Police for further investigation. He said investigation revealed that the suspect had deceived the tricycle owner at Emir Palace Road, Kano and conspired with his syndicate members to rob the owner of the tricycle. Two accomplices, Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna, were subsequently arrested, and seven additional stolen tricycles the suspects sold in Babura, Jigawa State, were recovered. READ ALSO: Police arrest suspected kidnapper, recover rifles The police advised members of the public, especially tricycle operators, to be vigilant and cautious when interacting with passengers. “We advise against accepting drinks or gifts from strangers and urge anyone with information on suspicious activities to report to the authorities. “The Command is also calling on individuals whose tricycles were stolen using similar modus operandi to check the attached pictures and report to the PPRO Office, Bompai Police Headquarters Kano, or contact the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) via 07010161372”, Mr Kiyawa said. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the police team involved in the operation and assured the public of continued efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety.
