Portugal gives Ronaldo farewell if he thinks beyond himself, says Simões
Portuguese legend António Simões said Portugal will give Cristiano Ronaldo a memorable farewell ceremony only if the Al‑Nassr forward looks beyond himself and recognises that goals are not everything. Simões made the comment after reviewing a statement Ronaldo released on Tuesday, 5 October 2026, which outlined the controversy and circumstances behind his exit from the national team camp.
According to Simões, a player who has enjoyed such a career and has become a man must find a way to think beyond himself. He stressed that ‘Goals are not everything; the game itself is equally important. These values should all be part of him.’ If Ronaldo understands this, Portugal will give him a wonderful farewell ceremony.
The remark comes as global attention turns to Ronaldo’s international legacy and the possibility of a formal send‑off from the side he has represented for more than two decades.
Simões, a respected figure in Portuguese football, frames the condition as a lesson in humility and team spirit that extends beyond individual statistics.
If you were evaluating Ronaldo’s career, would you weigh personal goal tallies higher than the collective values of the sport, or do you believe a true farewell should reflect both excellence on the pitch and respect for the game itself?
